  3.                    DISKETTE and HARD DRIVE FILING SYSTEM
  4.                                  Version 2.5

  6.      This program is to catalog your files that are on diskettes of any size
  7. or type, such as 360, 720, 1.55.  Also will File hard drives C - E.
  8. You should find 16 files from this unzipped file.  They are: DF.EXE, DFIL.BAT,
  9. HFIL.BAT, ASK.COM, SCRN??.COM, & this README.1ST text file which you are
  10. reading now, & CAPSLOCK.COM, DF.COM, and DSKFIL25.DOC, INSTALL.BAT, PPT.EXE,
  11. CONVRTDF.COM, PREF-ID2.TXT.

  13.      PLEASE DO NOT ALTER or CHANGE THE  "dfil.bat" OR "hfil.bat" FILE!!

  15. TO GET STARTED
  16. --------------
  17.                              Hard Drive
  18.  
  19.      You can do one of several ways to use this program, but one thing to
  20. keep in mind is that the storage file called `d_stor.dta' will expand and could
  21. become quite large.  Therefore, it's BEST to use a hard drive.  So if on a
  22. hard drive do the following:
  23.  
  24. 1.  Go to your hard drive and make a directory called:  DSKFILER
  25.        Example:   c:>md DSKFILER     ,press `enter key'
  26.  
  27. 2.  Copy the files into the directory you just made.  Say your diskette that
  28.     you have is in drive A: this would be an example of what you could type:
  29.              a:>copy *.* c:\DSKFILER
  30.  
  31. 3.  Change or get into the directory  DSKFILER  after changing to drive C:
  32.        Example:  a:> c:           ,press `enter key'
  33.                  c:>cd\DSKFILER     ,press `enter key'
  34.  
  35. 5.  Then to start the program simply type;  DF     ,and press the `enter key'.
  36.        Example:         c:DSKFILER>df     ,press `enter key'
  37.  
  38. 5.  The program contains a brief set of instructions at the beginning of the
  39.     program which will help you with the overall process.  There is also short
  40.     descriptions to help you at each question when there is a choice to be
  41.     made.

  43.                              Floppy Drive
  44.  
  45.  
  46. 1.  If you have the 16 files on a blank diskette already your ready to go
  47.     except for one more step.  If you don't want to use this program on this
  48.     diskette, then copy the files to a blank formatted diskette.
  49.  
  50. 2.  After you have the files on the diskette that you are going to use this
  51.     program on you need to copy five more files to this diskette.  They are
  52.     the following:  MORE.COM, FIND.COM, CHKDSK.COM, COMMAND.COM, and
  53.     LABEL.COM.  You can get these files from your DOS diskette.

  55. 3.  After you have a total of 20 files as described above on the diskette
  56.     your ready to begin using the program.  If your diskette drive is  A:
  57.     then the following example will start the program if you are in that
  58.     drive.
  59.                Example:  a:>DF      ,press the `enter key'
  60.  
  61. CONCLUSION
  62. ----------
  63.  
  64.      This program uses 5 programs from DOS to do it's job.  To make things a
  65. little easier and to get the full advantage of the program it would be helpful
  66. to get the program called:  LIST.COM or LIST.EXE depending on version you find
  67. or use.  This is another shareware program that you can get from shareware
  68. vendors or from Bulletin Board Services (BBS).  It is put out by;
  69. Vernon D. Buerg.  This program was developed for simple but flexible  use, from
  70. a need that I found necessary to write this program.  The main big difference
  71. DISK FILER has over others is to allow you to erase a diskette completely and
  72. remove this deleted diskette from the catalog as well, but retain it's ID#.
  73. I hope you find this program of use to you as it has been for me.

  75.     You can also use the install.bat file to do the above mentioned
  76. procedures more easily by simply typing in the drive you want Disk Filer
  77. installed TO and the drive FROM which you are installing from when doing
  78. it for the HARD drive.

  80.               Example for Floppy:    install a b     ,press the `enter key'
  81.  
  82.               Example for Hard Drive:  install c a  ,press the `enter key'
  83.  
  84.     Be sure to use the last example just like it is if you are going to
  85. install to the C: hard drive.  The "c" being first after the install command
  86. tells the batch file to install to the hard drive, and the "a" that it's
  87. installing from the A: drive.  If you want to install from the B: drive type
  88. that letter instead.

  90.     To print out the documentation file: DSKFIL25.DOC type the following
  91.     command at the DOS prompt:

  93.                        copy dskfil25.doc prn        ,press the `enter key'
  94.  
  95.          BE SURE TO READ THE DOCUMENTATION OR SCAN OVER IT AT LEAST!

  98.     If you have a prior version of Disk Filer (prior to ver. 2.5) then you
  99. will need to use the file  CONVRTDF.COM  to convert the "d_file.lst" to
  100.  "d_stor.dta" file.  This is the storage file that Disk Filer 2.5 uses to
  101.  store the collected data in.  Simply have your old file present with
  102.  "convrtdf.com", and then type in:   convrtdf    ,and press Enter key.  Then
  103.  place the converted file where you have placed Disk Filer version 2.5.
